Chow chow

Originating over 2,000 years ago in China the Chow Chow has a thick cost and stands around 50 cms high. It was used to pull carts and as a guard dog. The Chow Chow has an unusual blue-black coloured tongue!

We have had a lovely note from one of our visitors which says - "If a chow chow is full blooded it always has a blue/purple tongue. I read in one book that the Chinese say that when God was placing the stars in the heavens, the chows were allowed to lick up the pieces of blue sky which fell to the ground and that is how they got their blue tongues."
