Groenendael

The black coat of the Groenendael distinguishes it from the other Belgian shepherd dogs. Breeding of the Groenendael began by chance in about 1890 by cafe owner Nicolas Rose of the Belgian Cafe du Groenendael, he bred a black puppy, obtained another and the pair formed the basis of the breed. Standing around 60 cms high the Groenendael is an obedient and loyal dog.
