Pekingese
Another of the ancient Oriental breeds whose ancestry can be traced back to the t'ang dynasty (about 1200 years ago) the Pekingese arrived in Europe in the mid 1800's. They were originally court dogs and were known as 'sleeve dogs' as they were carried within the flowing robes of the emporer! Queen Victoria had one of the first Pekingese dogs to reach the UK. The Pekingese can be affectionate, stubborn and pompous - it thrives on attention but can be destructive if left too long to its own devices!
