Schipperke

A relatively small member of the Spitz family the Schipperke originated in Belgium in the 1500's where it was used as a guard dog on barges (and also perhaps used to encourage the barge ponies in their work!). Most Schipperkes are born tailess and they are generally black although many other colours are available. The Schipperke is an affectionate and hardy dog which makes a good pet.
