Soft coated wheaten terrier
Originating in Ireland in the 1700's the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier was used for herding cattle and ratting. Standing at around 46 cms high this is an active and loyal dog which benefits from a certain degree of training! The distinctive soft coat is not shed and therefore requires daily attention to prevent matting. The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is believed to be the oldest terrier breed in Ireland and was most common in the area of Kerry, where it gave rise to the Kerry Blue Terrier.
