Alaskan Malamute
Known as long ago as 300BC the Alaskan Malamute originated in the US and was used for pulling sledges.The dense, double-layered coat of the Malamute protects it from the elements. The Malamute is named after the Malhemut tribe, an Inuit people, from the northwest of Alaska. Due to its size (height approx 65cm) and considerable strength it is a dog that requires training from an early age. The Malamute retains something of a pack instinct and may react badly to other dogs but it has an affectionate nature and is friendly to people.
